Took some photo’s recently that I thought would be fun to share, especially since I need to keep this thing up and running all the while, no big deal. Working on a bunch of different things and hoping to be in Alaska this summer. There would be some amazing photo opportunities up there.

Here is a little short I did for fun. Took hardly any time. Don’t expect cinematography genius here, but it was a joy to make. Hope you all have a good new year.

2010 was my first full year as a photographer. There were multiple pictures that I enjoyed but I picked a short few that really stood out.

October 27, 2010. Oak Park, Chicago Il.

I had no idea I had captured this shot until I came back to my computer and began editing them. The lighting was perfect, shot with a D40 and a 50mm f/1.8 Nikon lens. Probably the biggest achievement is that it was on manual focus. I got lucky with such a tiny focus range.

December 15, 2010. Haslett, Mi.

Shot at sunrise when I had just gotten back, this one, and the one below, were both on the same day. Absoultely awesome light and it just came together to make a beautiful image.

I nearly gasped when I saw this picture. “Is that seriously breaking off and falling?” I was so excited about this one because you simply cannot replicate something like this. Some shots I set up for a while and look for many things, this was just a quick snap and a nice surprise. The icicles, by the way, were on everything that morning and the whole scenery was stunning in the morning sunlight.

March 15, 2010. Grand Ledge, MI.

This was one of my favorite pictures of all time. His face is glowing and the color is so rich. There is a small vignette that really draws the viewer into the center. Shot off of a 50mm lens, manual focus.

May 23, 2010. Haslett Mi.

This was one of those pictures that forever and a day to finally get right. I had about 12 of these things blown out by the time I got the shot I wanted. One of my favorite parts of this is how the seed is so far off and still in focus. It makes it almost like you are focusing on two primary objects, which I think you are.

June 1, 2010. Lake Michigan, Stevensville Lakeshore, MI.

This was part of a photo shoot for a family. I love this picture because of the contrast and the moment it captures. This is such an accurate description of the kids and their wild nature. The mother, finally gives in to their unyielding adventure hearts and lets them free. All this behind a beautiful sunset over an almost completely calm Lake Michigan. It is a winner in my book.

June 19, 2010. Cook Inlet, Kasilof Alaska.

This photo is so great because it is so complex. There is the main focus, the boat on the calmness of the water, but look at the clouds! There is so much going on, so many shapes and colors and contrasts that add to it.

August 24, 2010. Marina Towers, Chicago Il.

Probably one of my most successful photos. This was a 30 second shutter and I had to “tripod” it on a fence that was on the edge of the roof of the tower. It was a long process for each capture but as you can hopefully agree, well worth the wait.

October 16, 2010. Somewhere in the middle of Indiana.

This was one good shot out of about 500 that I took. You are looking at a 50mm f/3.5 at 1/800. It was on my nifty 50, so the focus was manual. I am not sure I could have done much better if I had auto focus on the lens due to the fact that the leaves were falling faster than it would adjust. One of my favorite pics, I love the color in the background and the separation (DOF) between them.

September 9, 2010. Yankee Stadium, NYC.

Such a fun capture. I liked this because of the various levels the photograph contains. I keep re-discovering the reflection and the picture within his glasses, and I enjoy the picture so much more because of it.
